Supportive therapy gives what people often most need: listening with undivided attention. During supportive therapy, the person tells his or her story, their life circumstances, past and present, and what they envision for the future. By listening deeply, questions are generated that stimulate thoughtful resolution of inner conflict. As difficulties with profession, family, friends, partner, and the pressures of limited time are experienced and expressed in sessions, opportunities to gain insight and resolution of inner conflict, anxiety and stress are possible. Supportive therapy can be a useful process in discovering our strengths, overcoming our weaknesses, and gaining greater sense of self-empowerment.
