Biofeedback is another way to reduce anxiety and stress. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) measures the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. As in neurofeedback training, the stress response can be replaced by the relaxation response. Heart Rate Variability training measures the beat-to-beat changes in heart rate. When a person is under stress, there is a different HRV pattern than when a person is relaxed. By getting feedback from sensors usually placed on the fingers and/or ears, combined with visualization exercises and focusing on positive feelings of appreciation, harmony, and love, relaxation is achieved, stress and anxiety are reduced, and immune and cardiovascular system function are enhanced. Mind, body and Spirit are working harmoniously together. As a result, there is more clarity and inner balance. A person learns to interrupt the negative thought patterns by focusing on positive feelings of gratitude. The result is a balanced autonomic nervous system. |
